Hollywood award season officially begins

From now through the Oscars,
award shows rule on TV

Hollywood has officially kicked off it's award show season.
Yes just like Americans have brief seasons when fruits don't taste like cardboard, the entertainment industry has a brief socially acceptable period of self appreciation.
In fact between last week's Golden Globes and the Oscar's in March, there are 13 opportunities for celebrities to to starve themselves and dress up in borrowed designer fashions. The awards shows include Crtics Choice,NCCAP Image, Producers Guild, Directors Guild, Writers Guild,
Screen Actors Guild, and Independent Spirit just to name a few.
And the greatest discussion leading up to each event focuses on who is hosting said celebration of excess. I mean, success.

Not Nomimated

Big names are always on the marquee that night. But I can't understand how.
When you host an awards show, it basically announces to the world that you weren' even nominated for anything.
And awards shows are frankly, rather boring for the viewer unless someone streaks across the stage in there altogether or causes some kind of uproar during there speech. But that means you have to stay awake between those brief moments of excitement.
That also means it's up to the host to keep viewers interested, often literally breaking out in song and dance to keep the momentum going. And critics are rarely kind in grading there efforts.
Seth Meyers hosted the Golden Globes, the biggest "party" in which liquor flows freely and stars are often half in the bag. But this year's event was also the first award show after the sexual misconduct scandals. So I thought he walked the razor's edge rather well. Critics did not agree.
They rarely do. Jokes are considered pandering to the elite in the room. Trying to make a social statement comes across as preachy  or self serving. And production numbers are ridiculed.
The biggest of them all, the Oscars, seems to have scarred it's hosts the most. Seth McFarlane was hired for his efgy humor which all but disappeared in front of the live audience. A disastrous Anne Hathaway and James Franco combination were the the Acadamey's answer to the youth movement.
Maybe it's the money. The paycheck varies from show to show. However, according to reports, it starts out mid four
and tops out in the mid five figures.
So why in the name of the Kardashians would someone host an awards show? Is it the adage that any publicity is good publicity?

What I Heard This Week! Feb 8th 2018

Many things are changing in Saudi Arabia. The country is getting its first movie theatres. Soon women will be allowed to drive and now 12 camels have been disqualified from this year’s “Camel Beauty Contest” because their handlers used Botox to make them more handsome for the judging. Or should this be pretty? I just couldn’t tell from the pictures. This is a perfect example of men objectifying camels again. So many questions. What about the talent competition?  Where do you inject the Botox? The face?  The hump? Must be tough to be a ‘hot’ camel these days. Especially if you are retaining water. I'm just saying

Here we are again

A student spit on a teacher at a High School so the teacher took off his belt and struck the kid. Wrong thing to do. Of course, it’s all on video. If these teachers don’t think that they are being set up to be videoed, then someone needs to let them know. First off, we don’t know all the facts, but if a child of mine spit on a teacher, there would be hell to pay. But some of us are raising a bunch of kids that don’t understand consequences because there are none. When I was young, and dinosaurs roamed the Earth, we all believed that there was a paddle in the principal’s office that had holes drilled in it so there was a swooshing noise as it flew through the air and made contact with your behind. When someone got in trouble, we all got quiet and listened, so we could hear if there yelping involved when the paddle hit home. We would never, ever have spit on a teacher. I’m not saying that all teachers are perfect because THEY ARE NOT, but we need to raise children to respect not only the position, but to respect themselves or we’re not going to have any teachers worth anything because NO ONE WILL WANT TO BE A TEACHER, or fireman, or police officer. Next week I’ll talk about the paddle with the nails in it…or so we thought.

Depends where u sit

A flight from Dubai to Amsterdam had to make an emergency landing in Vienna after one of the passengers had uncontrollable, noisy flatulence. He was asked to stop by his disgusted seatmates who then complained to the crew. The captain then issued a warning to the two men complaining, a fight broke out, the plane made an emergency stop to remove the two men that complained and two women that happened to be sitting on the same row as the men involved, but the farting man stayed on the plane. Get the guy some Beano. The four individuals removed from the plane have been banned from flying Transavia Airlines in the future.
